Data Availability

The NHD is available nationwide in two datasets, one based on 1:24,000-scale topographic mapping, (1:63,360-scale in Alaska) known as the high-resolution NHD, and the other based on 1:100,000-scale topographic mapping, known as the medium-resolution NHD. It also is becoming available in select areas based on larger scales such as 1:4,800-scale mapping. In many cases improved mapping was used to build the NHD, such as source maps updated by local agencies.
